PROGRAM INFORMATION

A Montessori education is an established philosophy and method originated by Dr. Maria Montessori in the first half of the 20th century.  It was her belief that the goal of early childhood education should be to cultivate the child’s own natural desire to learn.  She created an approach to education that would best enable children to develop their learning abilities, independence, and initiative, and stimulate within the child a genuine love of learning.

Children from eighteen months old to three years old are in one class, and children ared three to six years old are in the ohter class.  Each provides a setting where learning takes place naturally from the prepared environment, the teachers, the assistants, and the other children.  The materials are designed to attract the interest and meet the developmental needs of each child and to integrate the child’s expanding knowledge.  Classrooms are bright and cheerful and are structured to enable a child to explore within his or her abilities.  The Montessori materials have a “control of error” inherent in their design or presentation, so that children can work independently and learn through their own efforts.  All activities are directed toward helping children develop positive attitudes about themselves, their world, and a lifetime of learning.

Children’s Garden Montessori School is a non-profit corporation, operated by an administrator and directed by a Board of Directors.  It is licensed by the state of New Mexico.  All teachers are certified through the American Montessori Society or the The North American Montessori Teachers Association, in addition to holding college degrees.

7:45 to 8:15 a.m.	Early Arrival
8:15  to 8:30 a.m.	Playground
8:30 to 9:00 a.m.	Whole Group Circle Time
9:00 to 11:00 a.m.	Independent work time and individual lessons
11: 00 to 11:30 a.m.	Whole Group Circle Time, songs, games, story and news
11: 30 to noon	Playground
Noon to 12:30 p.m.	Lunch
12:30 to 1:00 p.m.	Playground; Morning Children are picked up.
1:00 to 1:45 p.m.	Nap and rest time
2:00 to 3:00 p.m.	Independent work time and individual lessons
3:00 to 3:15 p.m.	Full Day children are picked up.
Before 4:00 p.m.	Four o'clock children are picked up.
Before 5:00 p.m.	Five o'clock children are picked up.
