Sick Child Policy

SICK CHILD POLICY

Children Becoming Ill at School  Children who become ill while at school will be brought to a room where they can rest quietly and the parents will be called to pick them up.

Medications  The teachers are authorized to administer medicine if accompanied by a signed and dated note from the parent and the container is labeled with the correct precription.  Please hand this directly to one of the teachers.  No medication of any kind should be put in children's lunch boxes.

When Should Your Sick Child Return to School  To protect all of the children and staff we ask that you not send your child to school when he or she is sick. Sometimes it is difficult to tell if your child is not well enough to come to school. If your child is not able to participate in usual classroom activities, including outdoor play, please do not send him or her to school.
Please do your part and keep your child home if any of the following symptoms apply:
Fever (101.5 degrees or more) within the last 24 hours.
An upper respiratory illness such as bronchitis or influenza.
Severe or phlegm-producing cough.
Thick green or yellow nasal discharge.  Such a discharge is usually a sign of infection and needs medical treatment.
Sore throat with fever or swollen glands.
Your child is within 24 hours of beginning antibiotic treatment.
Your child has any of the following bacterial infections: Strep throat, Impetigo, Bacterial conjunctivitis (pink eye) and yellow discharge from the eye, other skin infections.  These must be treated with antibiotics for 24 hours before returning to school.
Thick mucus or pus draining from the eye.
Three or more watery stools in 24 hours. Children whose stools are bloody or have mucus in them should stay home; it could be the sign of a viral or bacterial infection. Please wait 24 hours after the diarrhea symptoms have stopped before returning your child to school.
Vomiting two or more times in 24 hours.  Please wait 24 hours after the symptoms have stopped before returning your child to school.
A body rash or a generalized rash (involving more than one part of the body), though only if you're sure it's linked to an infection (many aren't). Children with rashes should be checked by their physician before returning to school. If your child's rash is not linked to a fever or other symptoms he can probably go to school.
Children with chicken pox can return to school on the sixth day after their rash appears, sooner if the sores have dried and crusted over.
Your child has head lice or scabies.  Your child must be treated and nit free before returning to school.
